As soon as this dreadful season came to an end for the Milwaukee Bucks, they made quick work of dispatching head coach Doc Rivers. Now, almost as quickly, they’ve named his replacement. The Bucks have agreed to terms with the top head coach on the market, Taylor Jenkins.
Insider Shams Charania dropped the news today that the two sides met multiple times over the past week, and called it “an aggressive pursuit and recruitment of Taylor Jenkins.” He also called him “the top commodity in the NBA coaching market.”
“Whether you’re trying to compete now or contend for the future, Jenkins has shown,” said Charania, that he can adapt to be any type of coach a team needs.
This is crucial, as the Bucks could go either way this summer, depending on what happens with two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo. The superstar has had one foot in and one foot out of Milwaukee for the better part of the last two seasons now, and many feel he could finally be dealt this summer. They certainly took calls at the trade deadline.
Can Taylor Jenkins convince Giannis to stay in Milwaukee?
But can Jenkins convince Giannis to stay?
Charania said he wasn’t aware of any involvement of the Greek Freak in the Jenkins recruitment process. In fact, he went one step further:
“My understanding is that there’s been zero communication between these two sides since the trade deadline,” said Charania in a shocking revelation, “as far as Giannis and the Bucks’ top brass.”
For now, no one knows how Antetokounmpo feels about the hire, or whether it’ll have any impact on his future. But one way or another, the Bucks have themselves a respected head coach with whom to move forward into their next era.
