Earlier this week, the Milwaukee Bucks surprisingly released Damian Lillard from the team, despite him being a seven-time All-NBA selection. While Lillard wasn’t expected to be available at all during the regular season due to his ongoing recovery from a surgically-repaired Achilles tear, now the Bucks will need a new point guard replacement.

While finding a new long-term point guard replacement could take several years for Milwaukee, they may be nearing an agreement with a short-term fix.

According to NBA TV’s basketball insider Chris Haynes, the Bucks have already expressed an interest in signing future Hall of Fame point guard Chris Paul.

“The Milwaukee Bucks have registered interest in (Paul). The Charlotte Hornets, they (are trying) to make a play on Chris Paul as well, but I’m told he wants to stay closer to home. The Los Angeles Clippers, Phoenix Suns– they are still in play.”

Paul just turned 40 years old in May, but the 20-year pro is apparently interested in playing a 21st season, and the Bucks certainly could use another ball-handing distributor after Lillard’s injury threw a wrench into their plans.

However, Paul may find other situations to be more intriguing for him, such as playing closer to home as he inches closer and closer toward retirement. Despite being one of the oldest players in the NBA, Paul is still seeking a chance to win his first championship ring, and he hopes his next team can help accomplish that goal.
