While Miami Heat star Jimmy Butler is one of the best-paid players in the NBA and all of North American sports, he shockingly shares the same hopes of many other Americans, and that is to win his local lottery.

The 2023-2024 NBA season is underway and the Miami Heat should again be a top team in the NBA. They have gone to back-to-back Eastern Conference Finals and represented the East in the NBA Finals last season. The main reason — besides head coach Erik Spoelstra — is because of star forward Jimmy Butler.

The six-time All-Star is one of the best players in the game and seems to excel in the postseason. However, he has also developed a reputation and following for his unique antics on and off the court. This was put on full display when he went with a bizarre yet hilarious emo-Jimmy look for the team’s media day pictures in October.

Well, a new layer was added to the unique legend that Butler is building. Over the weekend, the Heat star took to his social media and posted a video of a visit to a local store so that he could purchase, of all things, lottery tickets. What is even more odd — or perhaps hilarious — is that the millionaire did not buy the most expensive tickets available. Instead, he aimed for as many $1 and $5 tickets as he could get for $100.

Jimmy Butler stats (’23-’24): 16.5 PPG, 9.0 RPG, 3.5 APG, 1.5 SPG

There are millions around the country hoping to get rich each day by taking part in their local lotteries. And it’s understandable as they try to end the grind of having a thankless nine-to-five job. However, Butler’s desire to get lucky with scratch-off tickets is strange stuff when you realize he is filthy rich already and is set to be paid over $45 million by the Miami Heat this season.

It is unclear if Butler actually won any money from the tickets he purchased over the weekend. But he will be back at work on Monday night when the Heat visit the Milwaukee Bucks at 8 PM ET.
