LeBron James’ record 23rd NBA season came to a bitter end Monday night as the Los Angeles Lakers were swept out of the playoffs by the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 4, 115-110.

The 41-year-old superstar led the Lakers to a first-round upset over Houston but ran into a buzzsaw against the defending champions. James put up solid numbers for the series despite the decisive loss.

With the offseason now here, all eyes turned to James’ future as he addressed reporters in a postgame press conference that left speculation that he may have played his last game wide open.

Will he stay or will he go?

LeBron James Leaves NBA Future Uncertain After Lakers Sweep

“I don’t know what the future holds for me, obviously, as it stands right now tonight,” James said. “I’ve got a lot of time now. I think I said it last year after we lost to Minnesota.”

“I’ll go back and recalibrate with my family and talk with them and spend some time with them, and then obviously when the time comes, you guys will know what I decide to do.”

James, a four-time champion and the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, has not ruled out a 24th season with the Lakers … or retirement. He made clear he has no immediate answers and plans to prioritize family input before making any decision.

Teammates and opponents alike continue to marvel at his longevity and impact at an age when most players have long since hung up their jerseys.

“It’s very impressive. It’s hard to put it to words,” said Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

When pressed, James reiterated his initial comments.

“Nobody has any idea what the future holds, and I don’t either,” he said. “I’ll take time to recalibrate and look over the season and see what’s best for my future, and when I get to that point, everyone will know.”

The Lakers will now enter a critical offseason, with James holding full control over his basketball future as he weighs whether to chase another title run or step away after an illustrious career.

Fans and analysts will be watching closely for any signals in the coming weeks as one of the greatest eras in NBA history potentially nears its close. They’ll also be curious to see what happens to Bronny James should his father retire.

LeBron James is one of the greatest NBA players who has ever lived, with his insane longevity, all-time scoring records, multiple championships, and game-changing impact spanning more than two decades in the league.
