Kyle Kuzma seems to have found what he was looking for.

The Milwaukee Bucks forward proposed to his girlfriend, model Winnie Harlow, over the Valentine’s Day weekend during a getaway to Turks and Caicos. Kuzma gave his 30-year-old fiance a 8.5-carat oval-cut diamond ring featuring two baguette stones to celebrate the momentous occasion, according to Vogue.

Turks and Caicos was, according to reports, the first place they vacationed together. Kuzma told Vogue he’d begun planning the engagement six months ago, and spent three months designing the ring himself. “I never really asked her what type of ring she liked or anything,” he said. “I just wanted to draw a picture of what I felt resembled her—something that was elegant, but very timeless and simplistic at the same time.”

The idea for the destination, he says, came from Harlow herself: on that first trip away, they took a sunset swim under the stars, and Harlow told Kuzma it was the best day of her life. He knew then he’d be back, but to ask her a big question. For the engagement, Harlow had no idea what was coming, even though she boarded a plane cabin bursting with love-themed decorations – it was, after all, Valentine’s Day – and Kuzma read a poem he wrote for her.

Kuzma had even arranged for their families to be there, who surprised Harlow when they returned to their vacation villa. A dinner and fireworks followed, an elegant affair to celebrate the moment with their loved ones. “We’re over the moon,” Harlow said.

The couple have been together for five years, and they already have matching tattoos of each others’ initials on their hands.
