With Phil Jackson finally gone, it seems only logical that the New York Knicks will try to run a more modern offense as a way to emulate the Golden State Warriors or San Antonio Spurs. But wholesale changes to the offense are not coming. That’s at least what coach Jeff Hornacek said.
“When you look at the triangle and look at what it can do, there are a lot of options,” the coach said, per Scott Cacciola, The New York Times. “There are a lot of things you can do. You can take pieces of it. … We’re going to do a lot of things from last year and some new things, and we’ll blend it so it gives us some more space.”
Of course, it’s possible that Hornacek could just be being either nice, or cagey. There’s really no need to come out and denounce your former boss. There’s also no need to go overly public with any changes you’re going to make as a team before next season.
The Knicks certainly need a different look on offense. They ranked tied for 18th in total points per game, tied for 27th in points per shot, and tied for 23rd in total three pointers made.
Of course, some of the problem is personnel. Maybe Frank Ntilikina (or is it Ntilinka) will help, but a more modern offensive scheme will go a long way.
