It looks like Los Angeles Lakers fans can ignore previous and future rumors about the team making a trade for Giannis Antetokounmpo.
A few weeks ago, the Lakers were looking like a dark-horse team in the Western Conference bracket of the NBA Playoffs. Unfortunately, significant injuries to both Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves have completely dashed their hopes of making a run in this year’s postseason.
While they will hope LeBron James can lead them to a quarterfinals upset of the Houston Rockets, the Lakers’ front office must begin their pivot to more tinkering with the roster they are building around Doncic. There have been rumblings that the team could engage in trade talks about Milwaukee Bucks legend Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Although they were not involved in discussions before the deadline in February, they will have more intriguing draft assets available to offer the Bucks this offseason. Yet, there may be a key problem. The 10-time All-Star isn’t a fan of Los Angeles.
Giannis Antetokounmpo calls Los Angeles superficial
The Bucks great was the guest on the debut episode of the podcast hosted by 15-year NBA veteran Goran Dragic. During the chat, Dragic asked Antetokounmpo where he would rather go on vacation, Miami or Los Angeles. And the two-time NBA MVP had a surprising opinion of Lala Land.
“I think LA is superficial. I don’t like LA,” Antetokounmpo said.
Many believe the nine-time All-NBA honoree will be able to choose where he goes in a potential trade, and that is why the New York Knicks have been seen as a favorite. Since he is on record about his appreciation for the city. If he is not a fan of Los Angeles, it wouldn’t make any sense for him to okay a trade to the Lakers.
Meaning, the dreams of some fans of a potential combo of Doncic and Antetokounmpo are not going to happen this summer, and probably ever.
