Cam Thomas has been one of the few bright spots for the Brooklyn Nets over the last few seasons. Three seasons ago, the late first-round pick was given a starting role for the team, and he rewarded the organization by becoming their top scorer. Averaging over 20 points a game the last three years.

However, with the Nets headed to being a lottery team again, and Thomas unlikely to re-sign once he hits NBA free agency in the summer, it looks like the two sides are ready to split. According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the organization could soon start working with Thomas’ representation to find him a new home for the rest of the season via a trade.

If Brooklyn does move the 24-year-old, we look at five teams that could look to add the star scorer for the rest of the season, including the red-hot Orlando Magic.

Toronto Raptors

The Toronto Raptors have been one of the nice surprises over the first half of the season. They have a top-four record in the conference, and their strong start has actually been led by their defense instead of their offense. If Thomas is willing to come off the bench for a team with playoff aspirations, he could be a fantastic rental and be a big boost to the Raptors’ bench.

Memphis Grizzlies

The Memphis Grizzlies have been a mess this season due to the ongoing drama between top star Ja Morant and their head coach. The guard’s days in Memphis seem numbered. Although recent rumors have suggested the Nets want to focus on their young prospects and players they get in a stacked 2026 draft, Morant would be a good player to build around long-term. And they could get him for an affordable price with his value at a low point.

Memphis would certainly be open to getting a player putting up similar scoring numbers, who they can either re-sign or let walk to free up a bunch of cap space after the season.

Chicago Bulls

The Chicago Bulls were red-hot to start the new season. However, they have plummeted to Earth over the last few weeks. While Josh Giddey has continued his strong play from late last season, and Coby White is back, they are a middle-of-the-road offensive team that is in the bottom 10 of offensive rating. If Chicago is serious about trying to reach the playoffs this season, it makes sense to target Cam Thomas. Especially since they only need to pay a few million for the rest of the season.

Orlando Magic

The Orlando Magic have broken out of their recent slump and are playing very well right now. And they have been doing it without top star Paolo Banchero. When healthy, they have a really good starting five and are a top-tier defensive team. However, they could still use more offensive punch, especially from the bench. If Thomas is open to the role, he could quickly turn into a serious sixth-man of the year contender in Orlando.

Utah Jazz

The Utah Jazz are again near the bottom of the Western Conference standings. However, a recent report suggested they would like to add some impact players and make a real run at a play-in spot this spring. They have two nice pieces in Lauri Markkanen and Keyonte George. Adding Cam Thomas would make a real difference. If he could help get them into the play-in tourney, that would really add to his value in free agency this summer.
