The 2025 NBA free agency negotiation window opens at 6 p.m. ET today, where teams will look to fill out their rotation with starters and key role players. This free agency class doesn’t feature superstars or even All-Star talent, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t some intriguing players available.
Below, we make some bold free agency predictions for the best players available in 2025. Is your favorite team included?
Atlanta Hawks sign Quentin Grimes

The Atlanta Hawks have missed the playoffs in each of the past two seasons, but they’ve been linked to several free agents this offseason. One area the Hawks are surely seeking upgrades is along the wing to help Trae Young and Zachharie Risacher flourish. Quentin Grimes would fit in nicely, giving the Hawks another bucket-getter who is capable of helping distribute and play defense.
Memphis Grizzlies sign Brook Lopez

The Memphis Grizzlies have to love their starting frontcourt with Jaren Jackson Jr and Zach Edey, but if an insure should occur to either one, things could get ugly. Meanwhile, adding someone like Brook Lopez would give the Grizzlies an experienced, rangy rim protector who could provide valuable minutes in a pinch, even during the playoffs.
Detroit Pistons land Nickeil Alexander-Walker

Nickeil Alexander-Walker went from being a trade deadline toss-in by the Utah Jazz to a valuable rotational piece on a team that just made back-to-back appearances in the Conference Finals. Now the rangy and versatile guard/forward offers starting potential to any team seeking another shooter capable of playing elite defense and he’d be a great fit in Detroit.
Miami Heat swing sign-and-trade for Jonathan Kuminga

One of the most intriguing players in free agency, Jonathan Kuminga may still develop into a star. Still just 22 years old, the 6-foot-8 forward has averaged 15.8 points per game across the past two seasons, but he has plenty of time to further his scoring prowess. The Heat could take a chance on Kuminga and hope he becomes Miami’s next star.
Myles Turner signs with Utah Jazz

Chance are, Myles Turner will return to the Indiana Pacers. However, if the 29-year-old center wants to chase a bigger payday, he could find a team willing to overpay for a valuable vet. The Utah Jazz could fit that mold, depending on how they view Walker Kessler as a long-term building block.
Los Angeles Lakers sign Deandre Ayton

One of the biggest surprises in free agency involves the Portland Trail Blazers buying former No. 1 overall pick Deandre Ayton out of his contract less than 24 hours before the festivities begin. Ayton hasn’t quite lived up to his draft slot, but he’s still a productive center who can be counted on for a respectable 10.5 rebounds per game. He’d be a worthwhile addition for the Los Angeles Lakers.
