NBA world reacts to Carmelo Anthony earning POW honors

File this under the column no one saw coming. Two weeks after making his debut with the Portland Trail Blazers, future Hall of Fame forward Carmelo Anthony is already out here earning individual awards and stuff.

The NBA named Anthony the Western Conference Player of the Week on Monday. This is not a typo. For the first time in over six years, Anthony has “earned” this award.

To be fair, Melo has played pretty darn well for Portland. He’s averaging 22.3 points and 7.7 rebounds on 57% shooting from the field over the past three games.

Even then, this award is usually reserved for the elite of the elite. The likes of James Harden, Luka Doncic and Co. Not a 35-year-old dude who was a street free agent a month ago.

Needless to say, the NBA world had its reactions to Monday’s news.
