NBA indefinitely postpones draft lottery, combine

NBA Mock Draft 2020

The NBA is pushing back its calendar with the season on hiatus during the COVID-19 pandemic.

It’s already being reported that the 2020 NBA Draft will be moved from June to August or September. Next season might not start until December, too.

Now comes this piece of information from Shams Charania of The Athletic indicating that the 2020 NBA Draft Lottery and scouting combine have been postponed indefinitely.

This makes sense in that the lottery can’t be held until the 2019-20 regular season comes to a culmination. At this point, we have absolutely no idea when that might happen. Though, the Association has plans that includes games being played in Orlando and/or Las Vegas.

If the draft is not going to be held until the late summer, there’s no rush on these two pre-draft events. Specifically, the combine could be hard to put together. It was expected to take place later this month in Chicago.

As of late Friday afternoon, Illinois had 52,900-plus cases of COVID-19 with 2,355 deaths. Obviously, holding an event like the combine is not in the cards in the near future.
