Nationals selling ‘Make baseball fun again’ merchandise

Reigning National League MVP Bryce Harper has been spotted wearing apparel saying “Make baseball fun again.” Now his team is following suit. The Washington Nationals are selling merchandise with the slogan prominently featured.

As was the case with Harper, this is a great idea. From a business point of view, it’s hard to imagine that these won’t sell well. Harper is not only the Nationals best player, but one of the best, most popular stars in all of baseball. So, it wouldn’t be at all surprising to see these shirts not only at games in Washington, but around the league.

Additionally, it’s nice to see a team rally behind a player who’s making a point that needs to be made. Too big of a deal is often made when a player seems to have too much fun after making a big play. When that happens, it’s hard to make a case that baseball is fun. Since at its core, baseball is a game, it should be fun.

So, well done, Mr. Harper and well done Nationals. Let’s hope that this merchandise flies off of the shelf and other teams get the idea to sell them. The more popular these are, the more likely it is that baseball will lighten up and become fun again.
