Washington Nationals catcher Kurt Suzuki took a ball to the neck/collarbone region during Sunday’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks and was forced to leave.

A Tanner Rainey strike-three ball on Jarrod Dyson bounced in the dirt, then went up into Suzuki’s neck area. He then threw to first after corralling the loose ball, hitting Dyson in the back (he was called out).

Suzuki was examined by head athletic trainer Paul Lessard while manager Dave Martinez looked on. Not long afterward, he left the game, clearly in pain, and was replaced by Yan Gomes.
