Armando Christian Pérez, better known as pop culture star Pitbull, has ended his four year ownership stint in the NASCAR Cup Series with Trackhouse Racing.

He had been a partner with the team since January 2021 and has been along for the ride through eight wins in four seasons, one championship race appearance, and entering four drivers from four different countries into the Daytona 500 on Sunday.

“Ending partnership with Trackhouse Racing,” Pitbull wrote on social media. “Over the past five years, we’ve made history by introducing NASCAR to a whole new audience and falling in love with NASCAR fans at the same time. We have made the decision to terminate the partnership with Trackhouse Racing, effective immediately.”

Avenue Sports Fund invested in the team last June and speculation started to run rampant that Pitbull would leave with the arrival of a private equity firm. At the time, primary owner Justin Marks dismissed the rumors but on Friday suggested there was indeed a link between the two in his own social media post.

“This is a great business story,” Marks wrote. “Armando came in when we had no certainty of any material success and took a chance to help build a brand. Now that we’ve scaled up and have new parters, he’s been able to be rewarded for the impact he’s made. A great investment on both ends.”
