NASCAR will take a look at all available data to determine if Sammy Smith committed a penalizable infraction on Saturday on the last lap of the Xfinity Series race at Martinsville Speedway.
Smith and Taylor Gray exchanged a series of bump-and-runs late in the race but the finish is under scrutiny. Smith came from three car lengths back in Turn 3 to drive right through Gray, crashing both, but also triggering a multi-car crash coming across the line.
Specifically, NASCAR will look into radio chatter and throttle and brake trace data to see if Smith showed any inarguble intent to crash Gray beyond hard racing for the win.
Most recently, NASCAR fined Austin Dillon and docked him championship points for intentionally crashing both Joey Logano and Denny Hamlin to win the August race at Richmond Raceway.
