Ed Jones, an experienced open wheel and sports car racer, with experience in IndyCar, IMSA and WEC has joined Sam Hunt Racing for a handful of NASCAR Xfinity Series road races.
Jones, born in Dubai but also shares British nationality, will drive a Toyota Supra for events at Circuit of the Americas, Portland International Raceway and Sonoma Raceway. The 29-year-old most recently made his Truck Series debut at COTA for Young’s Motorsports but failed to turn a lap with suspension issues.
“I’m really excited to be joining Sam Hunt Racing and Toyota Racing Development for my Xfinity Series debut and to compete in multiple races this season,” said Jones in a team press release. “After spending time with Sam’s crew and the Toyota team, I have a lot of confidence in the program. I feel confident that we will be able to achieve some strong results.”
Jones has three podiums in IndyCar, including in the Indianapolis 500 and Long Beach Grand Prix, and was the 2016 Indy Lights Champion.
