After months of limbo about his future in NASCAR, Daniel Suárez can finally breathe — he’s got a new ride lined up for the 2026 Cup Series season. The Mexican driver is off to Spire Motorsports, where he’ll be taking over the №7 Chevrolet ZL1 from Justin Haley.
This change of scenery was recently announced, a bit of a formality after the speculation swirled for so long following his exit from Trackhouse Racing where he’d spent five years driving the №99 car.
Suárez isn’t making the switch on his own. Freeway Insurance will be sticking with him as he starts this new chapter in his career.
“Spire’s growth over the last few years is quite impressive,” Saurez said in a news release. “There is a lot more out there to achieve, and I want to be part of that.”
The signing has come at a time when the 2025 season is drawing to a close . Only Martinsville and Phoenix are left on the schedule and teams are scrambling to finalise their lineups for next year.
During his time at Trackhouse, Suárez made it to the playoffs twice and established himself as a regular Cup Series contender.
For the Mexican driver, joining Spire is the chance for a fresh start. It’s also a chance to really contribute to a team that’s clearly on the up and up.
Daniel Suarez and from enemies to teammates

One of the amusing side notes to this whole deal is who Suárez will now be calling a teammate — none other than Michael McDowell. The two famously clashed back in 2019, during qualifying in Phoenix . A little scuffle that ended up with them on the front page for weeks.
But the bad blood between them? Long gone. Suárez has actually chuckled about the whole thing since the news broke saying that he and McDowell have actually become close mates over the years.
Who would have thought from throwing punches, those two would be sharing a garage next year.
For Spire Motorsports, landing Suárez is a big coup. They’ve been expanding in the Cup and Truck Series and adding a driver of Suárez’s calibre only adds to the momentum.
