Mookie Betts offers funny reason he’s not interested in Home Run Derby

Boston Red Sox right fielder Mookie Betts leads all MLB batters with 16 home runs, and he’s doing things this year at the plate that are historically great. But despite his phenomenal season, Betts has no interest in participating in the Home Run Derby this summer.

And the reason why is pretty darn funny.

Some players routinely launch moon shots in batting practice. Others are just gamers. Clearly, we can place Betts in the latter category.

The Red Sox slugger is absolutely raking this year. In addition to leading MLB in homers, he leads the league in a bunch of other categories including batting average (.368), doubles (19), and runs (49).
