New York Jets rookie linebacker Darron Lee is about to have a unique relationship with his mother, Candice Lee.

In order to completely dedicate herself to her son’s success, both on and off the field, she is leaving her job as a reporter for WCMH-TV in Columbus, Ohio to become his “mom-ager.”

“I want to be there for many of his games,” Candice said, per Ken Gordon of the Columbus Dispatch, “and working weekends would not be conducive to traveling to see him play. Plus, it was time — I have been in the business for 19 years.”

Among other things, Lee will be helping her son manage his off-field life, including marketing and endorsements, per the report.

Darron Lee was selected by New York in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft (No. 20 0verall). A blazing fast, undersized linebacker, he is expected to make an instant impact on the field for the Jets. At this time, he is already slated to “play immediately” as a nickel linebacker, per Rich Cimini of ESPN.

Set to sign a four-year contract worth roughly $10.2 million, a bit of guidance from his mom certainly couldn’t hurt.
