FC Cincinnati added depth and experience to its backline Friday by signing defender Chris Duvall.

Duvall, 29, had been a free agent since the end of last season when he was released by the Portland Timbers. He spent the last few weeks on trial with the club before being signed.

The deal includes a club option for 2022.

“I’m very happy to sign for FC Cincinnati,” Duvall said in a statement. “I know a lot of guys on this team, and so to be able to join them is great. It means a lot to be able to sign on and help the team.”

The defender has played in 112 games (101 starts) over seven seasons with the New York Red Bulls, CF Montreal, Houston Dynamo and Portland. He has two goals and seven assists in that time.

He played in 10 games last year with the Timbers.
