A former top New York Yankees prospect could be the odd man out in the outfield and find himself on the trade block this offseason.

The Yankees extended a $22 million qualifying offer to Trent Grisham, and according to NJ Advance Media’s Randy Miller, if Grisham accepts it, the team still wants to bring back Cody Bellinger.

If both return, Jasson Dominguez could be shopped this winter.

“Aaron Judge is locked into right field and erstwhile top prospect Jasson Domínguez received most of the playing time in left field this year until the Yankees went with the Bellinger/Grisham/Judge outfield late in the season and postseason. Grisham accepting the qualifying offer and Bellinger returning could put Domínguez, who is still only 22, on the trade block,” CBS Sports’ Mike Axisa reports.

The Yankees signed Dominguez, dubbed “The Martian,” in July 2019 for $5.1 million. The 16-year-old ranked as the No. 1 international prospect at the time.

Dominguez spent four seasons in the minors before making his MLB debut in grand fashion in September 2023, hitting four home runs in his first eight games before suffering an elbow injury that required Tommy John surgery. He returned late in 2024 to play in 18 games but became a full-time starter in 2025.

The season didn’t go as planned for the 22-year-old.

Dominguez struggled defensively in left field with two errors and finished with minus-seven defensive runs saved. Offensively, he struck out 26.8% of the time, ranking in the 14th percentile, with mediocre chase and whiff percentages of 30.9 and 27.2 — both in the 31st percentile.

He finished the season with 10 home runs in 123 games, a .719 OPS, 101 OPS+ and 0.5 bWAR.

If Dominguez becomes available, several teams would line up as trade suitors since he won’t reach free agency until after the 2031 season. Potential suitors include the San Diego Padres, Arizona Diamondbacks, Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets.
