Twins rumors - Josh Donaldson signs four-year, $92 million deal

The Minnesota Twins signed All-Star third baseman Josh Donaldson on Tuesday night, reportedly agreeing to a four-year contract worth $92 million.

According to MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand, the Twins signed Donaldson to a four-year contract worth $23 million per season. The deal also includes a fifth-year option that could increase the value to $100 million.

Minnesota faced significant competition to land the star third baseman. He also received interest from the Washington Nationals and Atlanta Braves, coming off a 2019 season with 37 home runs, a .900 OPS and 94 RBI in 549 at-bats.

Despite his age, Donaldson remains a strong defender at the hot corner. He finished second among third baseman in Defensive Runs Saved (-15) and made one of the best defensive plays in 2019.

The addition of Donaldson allows the Twins to move Miguel Sano to first base. It represents a significant upgrade defensively at the hot corner for Minnesota and adds another power bat to a lineup that hit an MLB record 307 home runs this past year.
