Dominguez upgrades a Toronto bullpen that ranks ninth in the American League in ERA (3.94), third in batting average allowed (.226) and first in strikeouts (440). The right-handed reliever has been effective, ranking in the 94th percentile in fastball velocity (97.8), 95th percentile in whiff percentage (34.3) and 92nd percentile in strikeout percentage (30.9).
Dominguez, who has a 3.24 ERA across 43 appearances, also provides insurance for closer Jeff Hoffman, who has struggled this year with a 4.78 ERA and 88 ERA+.
In return for Dominguez, the Orioles received right-handed pitching prospect Juaron Watts-Brown, who has a 3.84 ERA across 19 starts in High-A and Double-A. Watts-Brown was not on MLB.com’s top-30 list of Toronto prospects.
