On track to win over 80 games for the fifth season in a row, the Seattle Mariners are taking advantage of their momentum. They’ve already acquired one All-Star earlier this week, but they may not be done. With the July 31 MLB trade deadline rapidly approaching, the Mariners will have to work quickly to upgrade the roster again.
However, according to USA Today’s MLB expert Bob Nightengale, the Mariners aren’t done after trading for Naylor. Now, they’re also “aggressively pursuing” All-Star third baseman Eugenio Suarez, who’s widely expected to be traded from the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Though, the New York Yankees, also reportedly inquired about a Suarez trade. They apparently backed out after determining that the “price tag was too high.” Despite their previous interest, the Yankees ultimately pivoted to a different third baseman by trading for Ryan McMahon from the Colorado Rockies.
Will the Mariners end up looking elsewhere for their next third baseman too? Depending on just how much the Diamondbacks are asking for, Seattle may very well have to turn to Door No. 2, whatever that may be.
We’ll find out soon enough, just how aggressive the Mariners are willing to be as they eye a chance to return to the playoffs for the first time since 2022.
