Two of the biggest Los Angeles Dodgers fans in Hollywood were very excited for domestic Opening Day.

Tom Hanks and Rob Lowe took to Dodger Stadium to watch the reigning champions play on home turf for the first time in the 2025 baseball season, and they were far from the only A-listers in attendance. Hanks sat with NBA legend Magic Johnson, who owns a portion of the Dodgers.

Hanks, Lowe and Co. were treated to a show: Japanese superstar Shohei Ohtani delivered an epic performance, blasting a ball into the left field stands during the seventh inning. It was his second home run of the season, and the Dodgers beat the Detroit Tigers 5-4.

Cheers erupted among the Los Angeles crowd, and Hanks was seen grinning and handing out high fives, while Johnson’s face beamed with excitement.

While the Dodgers started their season earlier in March with a pair of wins over the Chicago Cubs in Japan, the March 27 contest was their first domestic contest. They now boast a 3-0 record to start the campaign,

Many expect the Dodgers to become repeat champions, as Los Angeles was one of the highest-spending teams in the offseason. Japanese sensation Roki Sasaki also signed with the club, loading the roster with even more star power.

Lowe in particular, is a huge Dodger fan, and told MLB.com he was “starstruck” after meeting Ohtani for the first time. ” I walked into the locker room. There was no one there. It was just him. I was like, ‘Holy [crap]. That’s Shohei by himself. I gotta say hi.’ I tap him on the shoulder, introduce myself, tell him I’m a big fan, ask him if I could take a selfie,” he said. “And he was so nice and so polite and so happy to do it.

“But here’s what’s interesting, and I think it says something about him. I’m not sure what it says, but I know it’s good. He’s sitting there half dressed. He’s got the whole top of his uniform on, and then cut-off sweatpant shorts, so I think he’s just gonna stand up and we’re gonna frame the top half and take the selfie. No, no. He gets completely dressed in the full uniform: socks, pants, belt. Has to walk across the locker room to get a fresh cap.

“I think it’s a couple things: I think it’s attention to detail, I think it’s respect, I think it’s commitment, and I think it’s buying in to being a Dodger. This is from a guy who just broke the bank! He can take his money and just do whatever he wants to do. And then the other thing that I thought was amazing was, after I took the photo, the Dodgers came to me and said, ‘Shohei wants to know if it’s OK with you if he posts it.’ Honestly, name another superstar who would do that. Name one.”
