The Rays are finalizing a minor-league deal with free-agent outfielder Ben Gamel, the Tampa Bay Times reported Wednesday.

Provided he passes the team physical, Gamel will receive an invitation to the major league camp and given a chance to make the roster. He could provide the Rays with a left-handed hitter in the outfield.

Gamel, 30, made his major league debut in 2016 with the New York Yankees and also has played with Seattle, Milwaukee, Cleveland and Pittsburgh. In 679 career games, he has a .253 average with 107 doubles, 40 home runs and 198 RBIs.

In the 2022 season, he appeared in 115 games for the Pirates, batting .232 with nine home runs and 46 RBIs.
