A new MLB rumor suggests the Baltimore Orioles could have another big move under their sleeve after landing New York Mets great Pete Alonso on Tuesday.
After winning 101 and 91 games the previous two seasons, Baltimore was aiming for a trip to the ALCS in 2025. Instead, the exact opposite happened this past season. Due to injuries to key players and down seasons for others, the Orioles won only 75 games and finished dead last in a tough AL East.
In response to a very disappointing showing this year, the organization has come out swinging this offseason. Heading into the week, they made a bold trade for talented outfielder Taylor Ward. Added the closer they needed by signing veteran reliever Ryan Helsley. Then on Tuesday, they made one of the biggest moves of the winter when they inked All-Star slugger Pete Alonso to a $155 million deal.
It has been the sort of aggressive offseason Orioles fans had hoped for after billionaire David Rubenstein purchased the team last year. Yet, Baltimore may not be done making game-changing additions.
Baltimore Orioles in on Freddy Peralta trade

According to Will Sammon of The Athletic, the O’s are among the teams that are currently pursuing a trade for Milwaukee Brewers ace Freddy Peralta. The MLB insider added that the Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, San Francisco Giants, and Houston Astros are some of the other teams trying to acquire the two-time All-Star.
Sammon admits no deal is close. Furthermore, with Peralta making just $8 million this season, the Brewers can just as easily wait and see how the season plays out and decide to move the pitcher before the MLB trade deadline. He is set to become a free agent after this season and is sure to get a big contract if he has another year like 2025.
- Freddy Peralta stats: 17-6 record, 2.70 ERA, 1.075 WHIP, 204 SO, 66 BB, 176.2 IP
What makes the Orioles’ chances better than most is the ability to make the Brewers an offer they can’t refuse. Baltimore has one of the best farm systems in the league and still hasn’t used it in a blockbuster trade.
