The Oakland Athletics and Miami Marlins enter the 2024 MLB season headed in opposite directions. Almost literally.

The A’s are set to potentially play their final season in Northern California ahead of an eventual relocation to Las Vegas. It’s been a major point of contention around the baseball world over the past calendar year. It’s also going to lead to an ugly scene inside Oakland Coliseum this season.

As for the Marlins, they are seen as an up-and-coming young team. While Miami is unlikely to compete with the big boys in the National League East this coming season, a wild card spot is a decent possibility.

What do these two teams have in common heading into MLB Opening Day on Thursday? They boast the cheapest tickets among home teams on the second-hand market.

MLB Opening Day ticket prices: From Miami Marlins and Oakland Athletics to Texas Rangers

Oakland Athletics, Texas Rangers
Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

Tick Pick released its prices for Thursday’s slate of MLB action (h/t Fox Sports MLB). The Marlins’ home game against the Pittsburgh Pirates is the cheapest with an average price of $13.00. The A’s home date with the Cleveland Guardians is the second cheapest at $19.00.

On the other side of the ledger, the defending World Series champion Texas Rangers’ home date against the Chicago Cubs is the most expensive at $285.00. It makes sense given that we’ll see a pre-game celebration ahead of that opener.

Here’s a full break down.

  • Chicago Cubs at Texas Rangers: $285
  • Washington Nationals at Cincinnati Reds: $164
  • Atlanta Braves at Philadelphia Phillies: $147
  • Toronto Blue Jays at Tampa Bay Rays: $98
  • St. Louis Cardinals at Los Angeles Dodgers: $95
  • Los Angeles Angels at Baltimore Orioles: $92
  • New York Yankees at Houston Astros: $83
  • San Francisco Giants at San Diego Padres: $72
  • Minnesota Twins at Kansas City Royals: $68
  • Boston Red Sox at Seattle Mariners: $54
  • Colorado Rockies at Arizona Diamondbacks: $46
  • Detroit Tigers at Chicago White Sox: $36
  • Milwaukee Brewers at New York Mets: $32
  • Cleveland Guardians at Oakland Athletics: $19
  • Pittsburgh Pirates at Miami Marlins: $13

There are a few different headlines to look at here. First off, the Mets’ opener against Milwaukee being the third cheapest of the slate tells us a story of a fan base in the Big Apple that’s not too excited about the product.

Remaining in the National League, expectations are sky-high for the Cincinnati Reds in the Central. That’s a clear indication of the interest level in Ohio.

Shohei Ohtani’s regular-season debut with the Dodgers amid a gambling probe isn’t necessarily drawing the most interest as it relates to ticket prices. That’s also interesting.

Back to the A’s for a second. They are set to relocate to Southern Nevada in time for the 2028 MLB season. At this point, there is no telling where the team will be playing next season with their stadium lease in Oakland set to expire after the 2024 campaign.

Last season saw the A’s draw an average of 10,275 fans for their home games. That was dead last among MLB teams with the Kansas City Royals (16,136) coming in second-to-last.
