With Jasson Dominguez’s future with the New York Yankees unclear, one team insider revealed a teammate who could play a key role in unleashing the former No. 1 prospect in 2026.

A few years ago, NY Yankees fans kept hearing about Dominguez and his potential to be an All-Star in the big leagues. In 2021, he was the No. 1-ranked player in their system and was given the nickname “The Martian” because his immense talent as a five-tool player seemed out of this world.

That is why there was so much excitement when he reached the big leagues in 2023. Unfortunately, he has come nowhere close to living up to those expectations. Despite showing the upside in his game over the last three seasons, injuries, inconsistent play, and poor defense in the outfield have the Dominican at a career crossroads at just 23-years-old.

A year ago, Dominguez was locked into a starting role for Opening Day. However, this year, there is a good chance he begins the season in Triple-A with no clear path for him in the outfield or at designated hitter in 2026. It has created a lot of speculation that he may end up eventually being traded by the team that signed him when he was just 16 years old.

Can Ahmed Rosario help unleash Jasson Dominguez in 2026?

However, this week, New York Post MLB insider Joel Sherman offered up some hope that the NY Yankees can get an impact season from Dominguez. In a new “3 Things I Think” video post, Sherman explained there is a unique asset that could benefit the youngster in a big way. And that is former New York Mets star prospect turned journeyman Ahmed Rosario.

The Yankees insider explained that Rosario has become a respected veteran around the game, and what he brings to a locker room was why the NY Yankees made sure to re-sign him this offseason.

“This is a hardworking guy who figured out how to maximize a career that didn’t turn out exactly as he wanted. And Rosario is still just 30, because he broke in so young, like Domiguez,” Sherman said.

The NYP reporter made the point that Dominguez has been following Rosario around like a “puppy dog,” has a locker next to the nine-year veteran, and it could do him a lot of good learning to find ways to be an impact player for his team, even if he isn’t a star.

Sherman thinks that if the NY Yankees coaches can improve his defense, being a 20-homer and 20-stolen base player is possible for Dominguez in 2026 and beyond.
