If the New York Mets season doesn’t pick up serious steam over the next couple of months, a team insider offered up an idea of what they could get in return if they sold off some of their valuable pieces, like ace Freddy Peralta.

After a miserable showing in April, the Mets have played better of late. Winning four of their last six and back-to-back series. But things still feel on shaky ground, and it would not be a surprise if things once again spun out of control in the weeks and months ahead. That is why the idea of being sellers before the trade deadline is getting whispered about among fans.

It was something one supporter inquired about in a new mailbag piece from The Athletic’s Mets insider Tim Britton. In response to the question on which players are most tradeable, Britton offered up some interesting thoughts on what the team could get for pitcher Freddy Peralta.

“I would think Peralta would be able to bring back a single top-100 prospect and maybe one other prospect in a July trade,” he wrote.

Clay Holmes won’t get Mets strong trade return?

The Mets gave up top 100 prospects Jett Williams and Brandon Sproat in the deal for the two-time All-Star. After a rough start in his New York debut in March, Peralta has pitched well in his seven starts since. Giving up two or fewer runs in four of those starts.

Beyond Peralta, who else did Britton think could fetch a good return in a potential trade between the summer trade deadline? Many might assume Clay Holmes, since he has had an outstanding start to the season. However, the Mets insider suggests that since he is likely to opt out of the final year of his contract, his limited track record would hurt his value on the market.

Britton actually believes relievers Brooks Raley and A.J. Minter could land the club a nice return if Raley can keep his strong start up or Minter can get healthy. Beyond that, he does not see any obvious players that would draw a ton of outside interest.

“Bo Bichette’s complex contract makes trading him tougher. Luis Robert Jr. needs to get healthy and perform to be of interest to other teams,” Britton wrote. “Guys such as Marcus Semien, Sean Manaea, and Kodai Senga would have to be straight salary dumps at this point.”
