On Thursday, New York Mets fans got several huge updates on several top players currently dealing with injuries.
On Wednesday night, the Mets fans gave their frustrated fans reason to smile when rookies AJ Ewing and Carson Benge played major roles in New York’s come-from-behind win over the Detroit Tigers in extra innings. Yet before their 10th inning celebration, top star Juan Soto fouled a ball off his ankle and needed to be removed from the game in the 7th.
He was in obvious pain, and Mets fans feared their already disappointing season could head to some dark places if Soto were sidelined for weeks or even months. However, on Wednesday night, the team revealed that x-rays were negative, and he was listed as day-to-day.
Well, manager Carlos Mendoza gave an update on Thursday, and it is great news for Mets fans because the $765 million man will be in the lineup for their game today against the Tigers.
Francisco Lindor’s calf improving, but NY Mets return remains unclear

Yet Soto’s injury wasn’t the only one that happened to an important player this week. During the Mets’ win on Tuesday, catcher Francisco Alvarez injured his right knee on a swing. It was revealed he had suffered a torn meniscus and was placed on the injured list.
According to Mendoza (via MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo), Alvaerz had surgery on Thursday morning, and the club expects him to be sidelined for the majority of the original eight-week recovery diagnosis. That would put the catcher on track for a return at the midway point of July.
There was also one more major injury update from the Mets skipper. Team leader Francisco Lindor has been sidelined with a calf strain since April 22nd. Mendoza claimed the shortstop is “showing signs of healing” following a recent MRI. However, he is not close to taking part in baseball activities.
So a return timeline remains unclear, but some previous guesstimates suggested a mid-June comeback was possible.
