Nick Castellanos has been on the trade block ever since the 2025 MLB season ended, but the Philadelphia Phillies have been unable to swing a deal. The biggest roadblocks have been Castellanos’ recent struggles, combined with his salary and defense. So, will the Phillies find a trade partner for the outfielder?
According to the New York Post’s Jon Heyman, Castellanos has a “50%-plus chance” of being traded from Philadelphia this offseason. The Phillies are trying to find a trade partner, but the team might be forced to pay down a significant portion of his salary to complete a trade.
In 2025, Castellanos had a down year with 17 home runs and 72 runs batted in over 147 games. Castellanos also had the lowest WAR of his MLB career. The 33-year-old player’s prime appears to be in the past, but he still provides a decent bat for a contending baseball team.
Castellanos would likely be a designated hitter for his next MLB team, but maybe he needs a change of scenery to capture some magic. Philadelphia could always release Castellanos from the organization, but it still hopes to find a trade partner before the 2026 season.
