The New York Yankees are expected to be active during the 2025 MLB offseason. After falling short of the World Series in 2025, the Yankees need pitching and want to re-sign Cody Bellinger for their outfield. However, New York doesn’t seem to be in the hunt for the top relief pitcher on the market.

According to YES’ Jack Curry, he does not believe the Yankees will pursue Edwin Diaz or other top relievers in the free agency market. Curry expects David Bednar to be the closer for the Yankees in 2026 after he was acquired from the Pittsburgh Pirates at the MLB Trade Deadline.

New York needs pitching depth, but it doesn’t appear that it will pursue any top relievers. The same can’t be said for the starting rotation, as the organization has been linked to a few top pitchers. While Diaz would be a good fit after Devin Williams left for the New York Mets, it doesn’t seem likely.

The Yankees are likely to spend some big money this winter, but it will be allocated to other areas rather than the bullpen. New York is hoping to retain Bellinger, but the outfield logjam could be too much of a challenge. Either way, Diaz is unlikely to sign in the Bronx, leaving the Yankees out on the top free agent reliever.
