The New York Yankees enter a huge Subway Series on Fourth of July weekend against the New York Mets amid a deep slump. Since a three-game sweep of the Kansas City Royals, they are 6-14. And a four-game sweep by the Toronto Blue Jays now has them a game out of first place.
They will surely look to improve the roster before the July 31 trade deadline. And according to New York Post MLB insider Jon Heyman, they “are starting to make calls in search of a third baseman.” With that in mind, let’s look at six impact 3Bs the Yankees could be targeting over the next couple of weeks.
Ryan McMahon
One-time All-Star Ryan McMahon is a player New York has been linked to for months. The 30-year-old has regressed in 2025. But there is no denying his power and defensive prowess. He is sure to be a top target. However, the biggest issue is that his current team, the Colorado Rockies, always seems trade-averse during the season.

Ke’Bryan Hayes
The Pittsburgh Pirates are one of the few teams that are no-doubt sellers heading into the MLB trade deadline. And New York has been linked to the son of former Yankees 3B Charlie Hayes in the past. Ke’Bryan Hayes is a talented defender, would add speed to the lineup, and he has a cheap contract over the next five seasons.
Nolan Arenado
New York Yankees fans have been hearing about a potential trade for future Hall of Famer Nolan Arenado since the winter. And a move still makes sense. However, the problem now is not how much the St. Louis Cardinals will pick up on his remaining contract, but that they are in playoff contention. The Cards are in the thick of the Wild Card race. The club may now be hesitant to move the team leader.

One-time All-Star Alec Bohm was reportedly placed on the trade block by the Philadelphia Phillies in the offseason. But if the Yanks are willing to part with stud prospect Spencer Jones, as has been rumored, that might be an offer the Phils can’t refuse.

Brett Baty
The New York Mets have given talented prospect Brett Baty many opportunities to prove he is an everyday player in the big leagues. Yet, the results continue to be mixed. A case could be made that a change of scenery would do him good. Manning third in the Bronx could be that. While it is unlikely, if the Yanks offer solid prospects in return, a trade isn’t impossible.
Eugenio Suarez
The Arizona Diamondbacks are another notable club that will be sellers before July 31. Veteran Eugenio Suarez is probably the best fit for the Yanks and their World Series hopes. The 12-year vet comes off the books after this season, and he is having a monster season with 27 homers already in 2025. Suarez brings the batting thump and veteran savvy that New York would like down the stretch.
