The New York Yankees have some work to do this winter. With Cody Bellinger a free agent and pitching as a need, the Yankees need to spend some money to field a team with a good chance of making the World Series. However, what is the latest on New York’s plans for MLB free agency in 2025?
According to Yankees general manager Brian Cashman at the MLB Winter Meetings, New York believes it is “too left-handed” in its lineup and doesn’t think it is essential to pursue a left-handed bat. Also, Cashman doesn’t feel the Yankees have as much work to do as they did during the 2024 MLB offseason.
Bellinger is a left-handed batter, but the Yankees can’t afford to lose his production from the lineup. Based on Cashman’s comments, it wouldn’t be shocking if New York pursues right-handed batters this winter. As of now, there are more left-handed batters in the infield than in the outfield.
The Yankees might not be as active as in previous years, but there are still plenty of goals for the organization. New York needs to bring back Bellinger, sign right-handed infielders, and acquire more pitching this offseason. The Yankees have been linked to more starters than relievers, and a move could come at any time.
