The Milwaukee Brewers have a long history of developing All-Star pitchers and then flipping them before they hit free agency for a package of prospects. As the MLB offseason winds down, it appears a Freddy Peralta trade remains very much on the table.
MLB insider Jon Heyman reported Saturday that the Brewers continue to field trade offers on their All-Star starting pitcher. While no deal is imminent, several prominent clubs have expressed interest in acquiring Peralta and engaged in back-and-forth negotiations with Milwaukee.

As of mid-January, per Heyman, the New York Yankees, New York Mets, Los Angeles Dodgers, San Francisco Giants and Atlanta Braves are among the “many, many” teams interested in acquiring Peralta. With the MLB free agency frenzy for Kyle Tucker and Bo Bichette coming to an end, clubs could now turn their focus to the veteran starter.
Peralta, who turns 30 years old in June, earned the second All-Star selection of his career in 2025. The National League wins leader this past season compiled a 2.70 ERA with a 1.08 WHIP, striking out 204 batters across 176 2/3 innings pitched with a .603 OPS allowed.

It’s worth noting that the Mets do have some ties to Peralta. New York’s president of baseball operations David Stearns served as Milwaukee’s general manager when the club acquired Peralta from the Seattle Mariners. The Mets are also known to still be in the market for a front-line starter after splurging in free agency on Bo Bichette.
While Milwaukee has every intention of competing next season, it has a long-term outlook regarding a potential trade. Peralta is in the final year of his contract, making $8 million in 2026, and the club sees an opportunity to capitalize on a market full of pitching-needy teams with limited options in free agency.
There’s another club to keep an eye on. Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reported this weekend that the Baltimore Orioles are seeking to add another frontline starter ahead of spring training. Milwaukee and Baltimore struck a trade for an All-Star pitcher in the past, with the Brewers sending Corbin Burnes to the Orioles in February 2024 for Joey Ortiz, DL Hall and the 34th overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft (Blake Burke).
If Peralta is traded, the Brewers would likely receive a starting pitcher in return who is near MLB-ready and could be added to the rotation by the 2027 season. In the meantime, Hall could step into the rotation spot vacated by Peralta.
