After winning a second-straight championship this season, a new MLB free agency rumor claims the Los Angeles Dodgers could get even better by adding a two-time All-Star to their bullpen.

Many baseball fans were rooting against the Dodgers this season. It is what comes with spending a billion dollars in deferrals to be a dominant team. Yet, despite the best efforts of teams around the game, and the Toronto Blue Jays in the World Series, LA remains at the top of the MLB mountain for a second straight year.

Heading into the offseason, the Dodgers again have the highest payroll in baseball at $240 million, and that is before any luxury tax bills. After winning consecutive championships and being early favorites to do it again in 2026, it would seem like LA’s roster is pretty much set, and major changes aren’t needed. Yet, the club has already been linked to a potential pursuit of Kyle Tucker. A multi-time All-Star who could get a contract worth over $400 million.

However, if there was one area of the Dodgers roster that they understandably needed to improve, it would be their bullpen. It was one of the few weaknesses they had this past season, after it was a strength in 2024. However, instead of going after good, affordable options on the open market, a new rumor claims they are targeting one of the best relief arms on the free agent market.

Los Angeles Dodgers and Devin Williams have ‘mutual interest’

According to The Athletic’s Fabian Ardaya, the word around the MLB general manager meetings this week is that the club is going after two-time All-Star closer Devin Williams. And there is reportedly “mutual interest.”

“The Dodgers had been in the mix to trade for Williams last winter before the Milwaukee Brewers shipped him to the New York Yankees,” Ardaya reports. “Williams even said in his introductory news conference with New York, ‘I kind of thought I’d be going to L.A.'”

  • Devin Williams stats: 18 saves, 4.79 ERA, 1.129 WHIP, 90 strikeouts, 25 walks, 62.0 innings

The only saving grace that makes the news a bit less annoying for MLB fans tired of seeing the Dodgers add stars to their roster is that Williams had a disastrous season in the Bronx. He posted a 4.79 ERA this past season and was actually demoted from the closing role after a few months.

However, even in a down year, he had a 2.68 FIP and 13.1 strikeouts per nine innings. It is a very real possibility that the 31-year-old is still an elite talent and 2025 was an outlier. LA might benefit by getting him for a more reasonable rate because of how he looked last year, and end up getting another player that is one of the best in the game at their position.
