The Los Angeles Dodgers were the talk of the 2025 MLB Winter Meetings on “Day 2” in Orlando. On Tuesday, the Dodgers signed free-agent closer Edwin Diaz to a three-year, $69 million contract, pending a physical. Now, Los Angeles has been connected to a top free-agent outfielder that seems poised to command a lot of money.
The Dodgers remain in the mix to sign Kyle Tucker, but the club is unlikely to offer a six or seven-year contract, as reported by The Athletic’s Katie Woo. Tucker, who has been linked to the Toronto Blue Jays and Baltimore Orioles, should receive a long-term deal in MLB free agency, but Los Angeles doesn’t want to commit that many years.
If Tucker were to accept a contract similar to Alex Bregman’s with the Boston Red Sox last offseason, then the Dodgers could be in play. Bregman took a shorter contract with a very high AAV, which might not be as appealing for a player who should easily exceed $300 million this winter.
As seen with Diaz, nothing is impossible for Los Angeles. It was initially reported that Diaz was unlikely to sign with the Dodgers, but a record-breaking AAV caused him to change his mind. Now, Tucker could be the player to break the bank next, and Los Angeles isn’t out of the picture yet.
