Eugenio Suarez started his MLB career with the Detroit Tigers in 2014, but it wasn’t long before he was traded to the Cincinnati Reds for Alfredo Simon. Since being traded away from Cincinnati in 2022, the two-time All-Star third baseman has played for the Seattle Mariners and Arizona Diamondbacks.

Suarez, who is scheduled to become a free agent after the 2025 MLB season, seems likely to be moved at the trade deadline, and any team would be lucky to land his services. However, which team does the Arizona third baseman want to play for moving forward? The Tigers.

According to Suarez, through the Detroit Free Press’ Evan Petzold, he is “definitely” interested in joining the Tigers at the 2025 MLB trade deadline. The 34-year-old third baseman has 31 home runs, 78 runs batted in, and a strong .889 OPS. It is shaping up to be the best season of Suarez’s career.

So, what did Suarez say about a potential reunion with Detroit?

“To finish where everything started, it would be cool,” Suarez told the Detroit Free Press. “It would mean a lot to me … Since I was there, it’s been a lot different. It’s a new team with a lot of young guys and a lot of talent. I think they have a really good chance to make it more than the playoffs this year. They got, for me, the best pitcher in the league right now: Tarik Skubal. They got a bunch of good players. I think they really have a chance to win it all this year.”

Detroit knows it’s capable of making noise during the postseason, but improvements have to be made to the bullpen and left side of the infield. Suarez would check off the box at third base and provide instant production in the middle of the Tigers’ starting lineup daily.

“We never know,” Suarez told the Detroit Free Press. “Baseball is baseball. I might be finishing where everything started. It doesn’t sound crazy. We’ll see.”

Suarez is right. It doesn’t sound like a crazy idea. Hopefully, Detroit feels the same way and will go all out to make this a full-circle moment. The Tigers need a baseball player like Suarez, and he’s ready to make an impact on a World Series-caliber team.
