The Detroit Tigers were the talk of the MLB Winter Meetings in Orlando. Detroit signed pitcher Drew Anderson and re-signed Kyle Finnegan; however, the buzz was about Tarik Skubal and his future with the organization. Following the MLB Winter Meetings, Skubal could be on the move soon.

The Tigers are “likely” to trade Skubal following the 2025 MLB Winter Meetings in Orlando, as reported by ESPN’s Jorge Castillo. Detroit has a decision to make on the back-to-back AL Cy Young Award-winning pitcher, as he enters free agency after the 2026 MLB season.

If Skubal were traded, it would likely yield a massive return that improves the Tigers’ long-term future. The Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Mets have been the two teams mentioned most often in trade talks for Skubal, but it is unclear whether either team would meet Detroit’s demands.

The Tigers haven’t gone “all-in” on winning the 2026 World Series, so trading Skubal would be the wisest decision in this scenario. There is no point in keeping Skubal and not being aggressive this offseason. Therefore, the Tigers would be irresponsible not to consider offers, and it seems they are seriously considering the possibility.
