The Houston Astros are one of the best teams in MLB every year, and won the World Series in 2022, making a trip to their stadium all the more worth it. Here’s everything you need to know before heading to Daikin Park.

Who plays at Daikin Park?

The Houston Astros play in the stadium and compete in the MLB as a member club of the American League (AL) West division since 2013, after spending their first 51 seasons in the National League (NL). The Astros used to be named the Houston Colt .45s and entered the NL as an expansion team in 1962 alongside the New York Mets. Their name changed from the Colt .45s to the Astros due to moving into the new Astrodome, the first domed sports stadium.

Where is Daikin Park?

Daikin Park is in Houston, Texas, on the northeast end of downtown Houston. The stadium is situated near the George R. Brown Convention Center, one block west of U.S. 59, and is bounded by Congress Avenue, Texas Avenue, Crawford Street, and Hamilton Street. The address is 501 Crawford St, Houston, TX 77002.

When do the gates open at Daikin Park?

The gates at Daikin Park open two hours before the start of a game.

When was Daikin Park built?

The original idea for a downtown Houston ballpark was conceived in 1996 by fourteen leading Houston companies, who joined together to form the Houston Sports Facility Partnership. The Partnership agreed to provide a $35 million interest-free loan with no repayment needed until 10 years after the ballpark operation opened. With this generous loan, the Harris County-Houston Sports Authority had the support it needed to present a ballpark proposal to the public in November 1996, later getting approved by voters for the $250 million total project. The park was finished in early 2000, and the first exhibition game played by the Astros was on March 30, 2000, against the New York Yankees, which the Astros won 6-5.

What is the capacity at Daikin Park?

The capacity in the stadium is 41,000. This includes 5,197 club seats and 63 luxury suites spread over three levels that overlook the field.

Does Daikin Park have a cover?

Daikin Park boasts a three-panel retractable roof, which is opened for outdoor games when the weather is favorable and closed when the weather is poor. It allows the team to play even during rainstorms without any problems, and keeps the stadium cool during the hotter days. The retractable roof is also opened to help groundskeepers maintain the ballpark’s natural grass field, with the large center panel stacking over the two outer panels beyond right field.

What is the Daikin Park bag policy?

Bags cannot exceed 16” x 16” x 8” in order to get into the park. Hard-sided and styrofoam coolers are also not allowed inside, but soft coolers that fit within the size requirements are allowed to be inside the stadium.

Can you take food into Daikin Park?

Guests may bring food inside the stadium if it is in a contained, clear plastic bag no larger than one gallon in size. You may also bring in water, but it must be in a factory-sealed container, less than one liter, and restricted to only one water per person.

When was Daikin Park renamed Daikin Park?

The Houston Astros’ stadium was officially renamed from Minute Maid Park to Daikin Park on January 1, 2025. This happened because of a new naming rights deal with Daikin Comfort Technologies.
