For Craig Sager, a Chicago Cubs World Series championship wasn’t just about seeing his boyhood team win it all. He also cashed in on a $1,000 bet.

Sager’s son, Craig Sager II congratulated his dad on Twitter on Thursday. In doing so, he cited something his father had written, noting that a bet placed every year since 1981, which has finally paid off.

The younger Sager didn’t note the payout. But someone did respond, saying that at the time, a Cubs championship had 16-t0-1 odds. If that’s true, the elder Sager would have won $16,000 with his bet.

Sager II didn’t confirm or deny, but did retweet the response.

Obviously, there’s no telling how much money the long time NBA broadcaster lost on the bets placed for the 1981-2015 seasons. But now, he’ll get at least some of it back. For lifelong fans of the North Siders, it can’t get much better than seeing the Cubs win a World Series. But indeed Sager has found a way to put icing on the cake.
