Cody Bellinger remains a free agent after the 2025 MLB Winter Meetings in Orlando. Despite some speculation that Bellinger could sign soon, he still sits in MLB free agency, waiting for an organization to give him a large contract. However, there are a few reasons why the 30-year-old outfielder hasn’t signed yet.

Scott Boras, notorious for dragging out free agency markets, is representing Bellinger in his pursuit of a long-term contract. Boras is really good at maximizing his players’ value, which might be why waiting for Kyle Tucker to sign is Bellinger’s best bet. The teams that miss out on Tucker would turn their attention his way.

Below, we dive into the five best MLB free agency destinations for Bellinger as he waits for the market to shift in his direction.

The New York Yankees want to re-sign Cody Bellinger this winter. In 2025, Bellinger hit 29 home runs and drove in 98 runs for the Yankees, posting his best season since 2019. New York would love to have the star outfielder back; however, it would likely take a few moves. Bellinger is the Yankees’ No. 1 priority, but the team would have to figure out its outfield situation with a surplus of players.

Los Angeles Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers make sense for Bellinger if he is seeking a short-term contract with a very high AAV. Boras’ clients have previously used this strategy to re-enter MLB free agency, and it worked out in their favor. Bellinger would join a loaded Dodgers lineup for at least one season, giving the organization an outstanding chance of winning a third World Series in 2026.

New York Mets

The New York Mets need to land a big-time player this offseason. After losing first baseman Pete Alonso and outfielder Brandon Nimmo, New York has to find more offense alongside Juan Soto and Francisco Lindor. The Mets truly need Cody Bellinger, and if they want to acquire his services, they need to hand out a massive contract to beat out the other teams.

Chicago Cubs

The Chicago Cubs would be another reunion for Bellinger. With Tucker likely walking out the door, the Cubs could use another outfielder and a power bat. Bellinger’s most likely destinations are the Yankees, Mets, and Dodgers, but a team like Chicago could swoop in while the others wait. The Cubs need some more pop in the lineup, and Bellinger would provide that.

San Francisco Giants

The San Francisco Giants need another outfielder, and Bellinger would be a tremendous fit. San Francisco’s interest in Bellinger hasn’t been as loud as others; however, the team has kicked the tires on the possibility. If the Giants went “all in,” Bellinger would join an organization that wants to rebuild a winning culture with Buster Posey leading the way.
