Brewers All-Star Corey Knebel says he’ll undergo Tommy John Surgery

The Milwaukee Brewers will be without All-Star relief man Corey Knebel for at least the entire 2019 season.

Knebel announced on Friday that he will undergo Tommy John Surgery after dealing with a partial UCL tear over the past five years.

This seems to be the right move for the 27-year-old former All-Star. It if wasn’t going to get any better, the reliever had to make the decision that was best for his long-term future.

Said decision will certainly impact a championship contending Brewers squad. Knebel has pitched to a 5-7 record with a 2.54 ERA and 1.28 WHIP with 55 saves over the past two seasons.

The good news here is that Milwaukee has a deep bullpen. Jacob Barnes and Josh Hader will be the two biggest late-inning names with the team’s former closer sidelined.
