The Toronto Blue Jays bolstered their rotation on Tuesday, reportedly signing Japanese pitcher Shun Yamaguchi to a two-year contract, per Sportsnet’s She Davidi.
The 32-year-old will reportedly sign with Toronto after spending the last 14 seasons pitching in Japan. He’s coming off a 2019 season that saw him record a 2.78 ERA with 194 strikeouts and a 16-4 record across 28 games.
He began his professional career as am 18-year-old with the Yokohama Bay Stars. He played for the Bay Stars for 11 seasons before joining the Yomiuri Giants in 2017.
Across 1,093.1 career innings, the righty posted a 3.33 ERA with 1,081 strikeouts and a 65-58 record.
In 2017, he was suspended for allegedly causing bodily harm and hospital damage in Tokyo.
Yamaguchi will reportedly make around $3 million per season on his two-year deal and will likely earn a spot in Toronto’s rotation for the 2020 season.
