The Atlanta Braves kicked off the MLB offseason by re-signing closer Rasiel Iglesias to a one-year contract, but haven’t done much since then. Atlanta has been linked to a few starting pitchers, but nothing has gained much momentum. However, the Braves are now in discussions for a two-time World Series MVP.
The Braves have discussed a trade with the Texas Rangers that would send shortstop Corey Seager to Atlanta, as reported by the Dallas News’ Evan Grant. As of now, there is nothing imminent, but Texas could be open to trading the 2023 World Series MVP in efforts to trim its payroll.
In 2025, Seager hit 21 home runs and drove in 50 runs over 102 games. The star shortstop hasn’t played over 125 games in a season since the 2022 season, but has been a five-to-seven-WAR player over the last three seasons. When healthy, Seager is one of the most productive shortstops in baseball.
Atlanta definitely needs an upgrade at shortstop, as Ha-Seong Kim entered free agency. Seager has six years left on his contract, meaning he could be locked into the lineup through the 2031 MLB season. The Rangers would have to be willing to move him, but the Braves would be a great landing spot.
