The Washington Nationals boast one of the best rotation trios in baseball. On Friday night in Game 1 of the NLCS, an unlikely pitcher stole the show and nearly became a part of MLB history.

Aníbal Sánchez dominated the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday night and carried a no-hitter into the eighth inning. When Ryan Zimmerman made an incredible, diving grab for the first out, it seemed like Sánchez was destined for history.

Afer Cardinals shortstop Paul DeJong flew out, all eyes turned with Sánchez just four outs shy of history. Then just on the verge of throwing just the third no-hitter in playoff history, Cardinals outfielder José Martinez wiped it all away.

As Sánchez came off the mound, the MLB world reacted to his incredible start and a chance at history ending in an instant.
