The 2020 calendar year just continues to stink. There’s no other way to go about it. Not only are we dealing with a once-in-a-century pandemic, the deaths of beloved icons continue to rattle the American public.
That’s no more true than in the Major League Baseball world, where the entire sport is paying homage to all-time great New York Mets pitcher Tom Seaver. The Hall of Famer passed away at the age of 75 on Wednesday, multiple media outlets are reporting.
The Baseball Hall of Fame announced on Wednesday that Seaver passed away peacefully in his sleep due to complications from both Lewy body dementia and COVID-19.
“We are heartbroken to share that our beloved husband and father has passed away,” said his wife Nancy Seaver and daughters Sarah and Anne. “We send our love out to his fans, as we mourn his loss with you.”
Seaver is widely considered the greatest player in Mets franchise history. He won 311 games and struck out 3,640 batters over the course of his 20-year Major League Baseball career.
Seaver was inducted into the Hall of Fame back in 1992 with what we then a record 98.8% of the vote.
It goes without saying that the MLB world paid homage to Mr. Seaver following news of his death becoming public record.
