MLB pitcher C.J. Wilson’s odd retirement announcement

Any thought given to the idea that veteran MLB pitcher C.J. Wilson might return to the Los Angeles Angels can now pretty much be thrown out the window.

Heck, it appears that Wilson has called it quits after 11 largely successful seasons in the Majors.

Yes, that’s Wilson telling a local ABC News affiliate in Fresno, Ca. that he has decided to go into racing full time. In the process, Wilson has purchased BMW, Audi and Porsche dealerships in the region. Not only this, Wilson now plans on moving to California’s Central Valley.

Up until recently, Wilson had drawn interest from the Miami Marlins. The 36-year-old, two-time All-Star did not pitch in a single game last season due to a shoulder injury. It was previously reported in January by Fox Sports MLB insider Ken Rosenthal that he was progressing nicely in rehab and was looking to showcase his talents to the MLB world this month.

Apparently, something changed here for Wilson. He ends his long MLB career having recorded 94 wins while posting a solid 3.74 ERA. Wilson also ends his career having pocketed north of $90 million. Surely, he’ll be able to afford a car or 10 from the inventory of the three ownerships he now owns.
