MLB’s winter meetings get underway on Sunday, which will surely lead to a large number of trade discussions among front offices. One popular topic is expected to be the exchange of pitchers since teams can never have enough quality arms. Milwaukee’s Corbin Burnes is at the top of the list of frontline starters expected to be on the trade block this year and he could become one of the most discussed players over the next week.
With the Brewers already undergoing significant changes this offseason, where they’ve already lost manager Craig Counsell, there’s no telling how competitive this roster will be to start the 2024 season. And with Burnes in the final year of his contract, the former Cy Young winner appears to be a prime trade candidate.
ESPN’s Jeff Passan suggests Milwaukee has begun reaching out to teams over the past few days, amplifying their efforts to trade Burnes before they risk losing him to free agency.
Earlier in the week, MLB Network’s Jon Paul Morosi linked Burnes to the Los Angeles Angels, Los Angeles Dodgers, San Diego Padres, and San Francisco Giants, noting how each of those clubs needs to improve their pitching staff.
With the Brewers seemingly willing to part with their three-time All-Star pitcher, Burnes is likely drawing interest from a wide group of teams right now. Perhaps the winter meetings are what sets a trade in motion.
